Support

We take questions, bug reports and requests about our products, from individuals and organisations alike. We reply in Japanese or English.

Where to write

The form shows only the fields your enquiry needs, and fills in your system details automatically. For a bug report we ask for four things.

  1. 01Product name and version
  2. 02Operating system and device (filled in automatically by the form)
  3. 03What you did to make it happen (steps to reproduce)
  4. 04What you expected, and what actually happened

Notes by product

General questions are answered below; notes specific to a single product are collected here.

Praat JA

Desktop application · Requirements: macOS (DMG) / Windows (installer)

  • Praat itself is not bundled. It is fetched automatically from the official distribution on first launch, so an internet connection is required that one time. If the download fails, check your network and any security software.
  • If the analysis results themselves look wrong, first check whether official Praat produces the same output. If it does, the cause lies in Praat itself and is outside what we can address.
  • On macOS, if you see “cannot verify the developer”, right-click the app in Finder and choose Open.

This is an unofficial project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the developers of Praat (Paul Boersma and David Weenink, University of Amsterdam) or the official Praat project.

Vowel Formant Chart

Web tool · Requirements: Browser (no installation)

  • Input values and plots are processed entirely in the browser; nothing is transmitted or stored. They are lost when the page closes, so export anything you need as PNG or CSV.
  • For diphthongs (eɪ, aʊ, oʊ), enter the F1 and F2 of the onset portion.
  • Reference values are representative figures taken from the literature. Use them to compare the relative arrangement of vowels, not to match an individual speaker's absolute values.

Speech Identification Task

Web tool · Requirements: Browser (no installation)

  • The app does not present audio. It records only responses and reaction times to stimuli that the experimenter presents separately.
  • Responses are held in the browser. Always export the CSV when a session ends — closing or reloading the page beforehand loses that session's data.
  • The stimulus list and response options can be swapped out by editing the configuration. Please get in touch about adjustments for research use.

Frequently asked questions

How long until you reply?

We read everything and reply in turn. Reports that come with steps to reproduce are the ones we can start on immediately, so the more of the form you fill in, the faster it moves. If nothing has arrived after several days, check your spam folder and please send it again.

Can I write in a language other than Japanese?

We handle Japanese and English. Use the same form for either.

Is my recorded audio or entered data sent anywhere?

No. Analysis in our speech applications completes on your device, and in the web tools the values you enter, the audio you load and the results are processed entirely in the browser. We also use no tracking cookies and no analytics.

I lost the data I was working on.

The web tools hold results only in the browser. Closing the page, reloading it or navigating away loses that session. Nothing can be recovered, so export to PNG or CSV as soon as a set of measurements or trials is finished. No data reaches us either, so we cannot restore it for you.

Where do I handle a purchase or refund?

Payment and refunds for anything sold through the App Store, including in-app purchases, are managed by Apple. Request refunds through Apple support at reportaproblem.apple.com. We are happy to answer questions about what a purchase includes.

May I use this in teaching or research?

We welcome it. Since the software is not distributed publicly from this site, write to us naming what you want and how you intend to use it. Institutional deployment, distribution within a school, and adjustments to fit your requirements are all open to discussion.

Can the software be adapted for my study?

Adjustments for research — swapping the stimulus list or response options, for instance — are open to discussion. Tell us the intended use and we will say what we can do. Note that versions you modify yourself fall outside our support.

May I send a request or a suggestion?

Please do. Requests grounded in how you actually work feed directly into what we build next. Use the “Feature request” option on the form.

If this does not resolve it, please write to us. Details of each product are on the software page.
