On the name
語音 (go-on, /ɡo.oɴ/) means speech sound: the sounds out of which language is made. We took it as our name because the same word names both what we study and what we build.
What we do
We do empirical work in phonetics and phonology on spontaneous speech corpora, and the instruments that work requires — an environment for running speech analysis, a way to visualise vowels, a setting in which to run perception experiments — become usable software. Research and product are not separate activities here; they are two sides of the same work.
Our language-learning applications follow the same principle. What they offer is not a count of words or exercises but the research itself — which words, in what order, approached from which facet, make learning efficient — turned into features.
